Exam Procedures

CIS 1100 midterm exams for this semester will be taken during the regular class meeting times. The midterm exams will be 1 hour. The final exam will be 2 hours.

  • All exams are closed book.
  • Any code that you need to submit during the exam does not need to follow the style guide. The most important thing is that it works. This means that you do not need to comment or write comment headers, though it may help you keep track of what's going on.
  • We will continue to follow the collaboration policy, with the additional constraint that you must not communicate with anyone else except for course staff about the exam material while writing the exam.
  • Do not discuss the exam until solutions are released, since some students may be writing the exam at a later date due to personal circumstances.

Topics Covered

  • What will be on the exam? Anything we have covered in lecture, homeworks, and/or reading assignments is fair game for the exam. It is reasonable to assume that topics we have dealt with more extensively are likely to feature more prominently than topics we have only touched on, although anything is possible.

  • Will X be on the exam? Please refer to the previous section. To ensure all students receive identical information about what will and will not be on the exam, course staff have been instructed to refer students to this page without commenting further.

Practice Materials

Before each exam, we will give you access to more old exams and other exam practice material. In the meantime, we recommend you refer to all of the practice problems you've encountered in lecture, recitation (slides & worksheets), and SRS—for the most part, these are good representations of the types of questions you may be responsible for answering!

Exams for students with SDS approved accommodations

You are expected to schedule your exam around two weeks before the exam date. Please be sure to have SDS notify the instructors of your accommodation in time for that.

Makeup exams

We will only be able to offer makeup exams in truly exceptional circumstances. Any unforeseeable issues that prevent you from taking either exam should be expressed at the earliest opportunity via email to the instructor.

You must take the exam on the scheduled day unless you have received explicit permission otherwise.
